Dr. Mandal

I don’t think I write enough about my patients. They’re an interesting bunch really.

Recently I received two lovely notes from my patients, both men. I was touched that they expressed themselves so freely to me. It meant a lot to me.

Here’s one letter:

Dear Dr. Mandal,

I’ve been meaning to write for quite some time, and for one reason or another – just never get around to doing it. Hope all has been well with you.
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for being so cool and absolutely awesome every time I’ve come in to see you. I’ve had trust issues with doctors in general for years, and yet I feel that you are someone that I can trust completely. Thanks for being so awesome as a physician and as a listener
.

Here’s the second one:

Dear Dr. Mandal,

Thank you for reducing your rates for me. Your empathy shows not only in your bedside manner, but also in the way you run your business. It was a pleasant surprise, and I appreciated it very much.

What’s great about these two patients is that they were so unassuming and did not require much effort from me. Mutual admiration is always a great thing.

Not every patient is as rewarding, not every encounter is always positive. You can’t be everything for everyone, I’ve learned. Not only am I writing this post for people to read, but also as something that I can go back to (when I have the need) when things are not going positively well. It’ll serve as an inspiration post for me.
